How to Import .mkv to sony vegas[Muxing method]
What is muxing/multiplexing? In short muxing is a process where separate parts of the video or "streams" are joined together into one file.
Muxing VS Converting
With muxing you can remove subtitles
It only works with .mkv and .mka files
You won't lose any quality
It takes only 2-5 minutes
Smaller output file size
Downloading
1.1 It is very easy and you will save a lot of time, you just have to download latest mkvtoolnix and Install it.
1.2 Next download and extract to mkvtoolnix's directory MKVExtractGUI-2
1.3 And finally download and install My MP4Box-GUI
Muxing
2.1 Now open MKVExtractGUI2, click input file, select your footage and click open. Now just select for example, if you want only video and you don't need the audio or subtitles, select only the Video Track which is usually Track1 and click extract. Now you will have a file with extension .h264
2.2 Open My MP4Box GUI, click add, select yourfilename.h264 and click mux. Now you have yourself an .mp4 file which you can import to vegas and start editing.
Extra
3.1 If you want to mux multiple files at once, in My MP4Box GUI after adding one file click "Add To Queue" and so on, then just click start and it will begin muxing.
3.2 Make sure before downloading your footage to check if it's a 10bit or 8bit file, because for some reason sony vegas doesn't like 10bit files and you will have green screen after muxing, if you don't know how to check if it's a 10bit file download MediaInfo, right click on the file and look for "Bit Depth" it will tell you if the file is 10bit or 8bit. But if you can't find 8 bit footage or have other problems you can convert 10BIT to 8BIT but it will take more time. Download my batch, extract it to a new folder, move a 10bit file you want to encode into the same folder, click and drag the 10bit file onto encode.bat, a cmd window will appear, wait until the encoding window disappears. Open mkvmerge GUI. Drag the original video into the input files. There should be a list of checkboxes underneath. You want to uncheck the V_MPEG4 (this is the 10bit video you want to throw out), now drag in the ENCODED VIDEO. It should be the same name as the ORIGINAL VIDEO except it has a .8bit.mkv at the end. Name your muxed file at the bottom and hit mux (don’t forget a .mkv) And that's it, now you can start muxing, but if you feel like you lost some quality after 10bit to 8bit converting, you can try editing the encode.bat file with notepad and change the number "crf 18" to let's say "crf 16", the smaller the number the higher the quality, but I recommend to stick with 18 because you won't notice the difference if you change it to 16 and I don't recommend going any lower because it's pointless and will take more time to encode, for anime 16-18 is perfect. Don't mess with other setting unless you know what you are doing. But for the sake of this tutorial I will tell you more. You can change the preset to ultrafast, veryfast, fast, slow, slower, very slow, placebo, etc. and tune you can change it to film, animation, fastdecode, grain, etc. But like I said, you shouldn't mess with them unless you know what you are doing.
3.3And here are some great sites to download anime: THORAnime, BakaBT, Coalgirls,Nyaa.
