So, i dont have a fancy banner or anything to make this stand out, but im new here so i figured why not post something here.



Nothing too special about this, just a birthday video for a friend. It took me about a month's time to make, due to working and shit. Plus, since the creditless op for this anime isnt available yet i had to make it creditless myself and that took more time to do. but hopefully it came out pretty clean.

I was editing for about 4 years running then I stopped for a while maybe about 2 years or something like it and came back to it recently so im still trying to adjust and knock the rust off. So, feedback is welcome. All the credit info is in the description.

Mhm, I'd avoid using all those unnecessary fades, it gets repetitive you should focus on other ways to transition from clip to clip

i see what u mean by that. crossfades can tend to be annoying, I used the fades mostly for flow but i also used other transitions in this

hard cuts
masks
pan/crops
flashes
swipes
blurs
as well as fades

so, what would u suggest as far as focusing on transitions? for next time, what would u prefer to see?

Ah ain't editing to please me aha, but I prefer mask transitions most of the times but that's because its my style of editing, you can try out mask transitions more and see if you like it as well but I'd avoid using fades for fast/action songs but they are completely fine for slow paced songs

i personally thought that the fades completed the movement of the clips that came before and after them, making them not unnecessary. i would agree that more masks wouldve made the video better but throughout the video i didnt see many opportunities where a mask would've flowed well. if there's any flaw in this video it wasn't the fades. all the sync was on point. the clip choice was good. u made the song fit the footage. i'm trying to think of things u couldve done to make this video better, and nothing comes to mind quite yet. if i think of anything i'll let u kno.

it's nice, it can be better if you hide the logo with a blur; the fades are too repetitive (as other already said) I think (just my opinion) that in this kind of video, with this kind of song, the best way is using only hardcuts , sometimes maybe a mask transition would make it cool.

yeah ur right, like chris and rikudo said, the crossfades can get repetitive. and i can see why. and crookz mentioned linking motions, so i'll keep those in mind for next time. thanks, all of ur feedback was very helpful.

he mde a good point. at some parts it may be hard to tell that u did the linking motions thing becuz the clip may not last long enuf to fully register to the eye becuz of a certain fade. i noticed that the parts where theyre are hardcuts, the way how u linked motions is much more visible and distinguishable.

Hmm... Your technique was quite interesting. For the crossfades it's okay to have them, but try to have them where it's not too noticeable like putting a bunch in the less than 3 seconds. You should have lessened the timing on them if you wanted that many crossfades.

For transitions, there are ways that can work instead of using masking and crossfades. You just have to be creative in what you do, I've seen it happen in a few parts.

Your scene selections felt a bit odd most of the time. You should have made it to where you can feel the wind blowing in your face with some good waves, it would have been an even greater watch with this particular song.

Overall, not bad... enjoyable, and at times you feel it's missing something.
